A Dress Rehearsal for Worlds: What to Expect in Dallas

Happy November dance fans! The weather is getting cooler, the days are getting shorter, but the dancing just keeps ongoing. Things are heating up in the dance world as we get closer to the Country Dance World Championships, held in Nashville, Tennessee on December 29, 2019, through January 5, 2020. There are only a few events left where dancers can qualify to compete at Worlds, one of which is the Dallas Dance Festival happening this weekend.

Things kick off in the Lone Star State with ProAm and ProPro events through the morning and afternoon on Friday. Couples Open Division I and II take the floor in the evening, along with Couples Showcase, Couples Classic Crown, Line Dance, and Teams. Six couples are registered to compete in the Classic Crown event, including Greg and Laura Thrash, Kelly and Denise Strouse, and Carla Romine and Bobby Pritchard, all of which have proven themselves as world-class dancers. It should be an exciting event to watch!

In the ProAm divisions, as usual, Silver Newcomer is one of the busiest events on the dance floor for both female and male students. Not so usual is the number of entries in the Intermediate and Advanced divisions. It will be a treat to see heavy representation in the whole range of ProAm skill levels.

The Dallas Dance Festival hosts Midnight Madness on Friday and Saturday evenings, a West Coast Swing event featuring workshops, Jack n Jill contests, professional performances and of course, social dancing until dawn. Saturday also features the Top Hat & Tails Variety Show Extravaganza as well as the US Open Swing dancers.

Don’t waste a minute of these shorter winter days. Spend them at the Dallas Dance Festival this weekend! Even if you can’t be there in person, you can live stream the whole event exclusively at FloDance.com. See you there!
